ASHLAND, Ky. – Country music singer Loretta Lynn was hospitalized over the weekend with the early stages of pneumonia, according to a representative of the performer.
The 76-year-old Lynn was scheduled to perform Saturday at the Performing Arts Center in Ashland, Ky. and Sunday in Durham, N.C., but the Kentucky center issued a news release saying she is in the hospital and would be unable to perform. The Kentucky theater says the show will be rescheduled.
Loretta Lynn Enterprises posted a statement on her website Saturday night that confirmed the cancellations due to illness.
“Doctors have diagnosed her as the beginning stages pneumonia, and will continue to need rest. Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates.”
Calls by The Associated Press to representatives of Lynn were not immediately returned Saturday.
In August, Lynn canceled shows because of knee surgery. Before that, she returned to live performances with a show at the Grand Ole Opry after being forced to cancel shows in Ohio and Connecticut because she was hospitalized for heat exhaustion.
The daughter of a Kentucky coal miner, Lynn had a string of hits starting in the 1960s – “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “The Pill,” and “One’s on the Way.” Many of her songs reflected her pride in her humble background and her experiences as a wife and mother. Her 1977 autobiography was made into a movie that brought an Oscar for Sissy Spacek’s portrayal of Lynn. More recently, Lynn marked 50 years in country music and won two Grammy awards in 2005 for her album “Van Lear Rose.”

Harold Camping Prediction: World Survives Doomsday (Again)
The world refused to end yet again on Friday, despite another prediction from Family Radio network owner Harold Camping that it would.
Earlier this year, Camping claimed Judgement Day was coming May 21. Then, when it did not, he said the actual day of reckoning would be October 21.
That day too passed without incident and now the Daily Mail is having a tough time getting Camping or anyone else from Family Radio to explain why the Earth is still turning. The paper's calls to the company were not returned.
The AP also ran into a roadblock while searching for answers.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but we at Family Radio have been directed to not talk to the media or the press," Camping's daughter Susan Espinoza wrote to the AP on Friday.
Reuters caught up with camping recently, before the big non-event, and the preacher declined to comment.
"We're not having a conversation," he told Reuters. "There's nothing to report here."
In May, thousands of billboards across the country proclaimed the world would end on May 21. One man from New York City said he spent his life savings on advertisements notifying his fellow citizens that the apocalypse was near.
This time, there was no such fanfare, perhaps showing that people have grown weary of trusting a man who is now 0 for 3 when it comes to anticipating Armageddon.

Justin Bieber will almost certainly get lucky tonight ... because TMZ has learned he just surprised girlfriend Selena Gomez with the most romantic surprise ever.
He's corralled the entire Staples Center in L.A. for a screening of the movie "Titanic" ... just for the two of them.
Sources connected to the Biebs tell us .. Justin hatched the idea after seeing the movie "Mr. Deeds" -- where Adam Sandler surprises Winona Ryder with a date at Madison Square Garden.
Here's how it went down tonight ... Justin took Selena to the Demi Lovato concert at neighboring Nokia Theater. He then said, "Come with me" -- and took her underground to Staples Center to watch the biggest shipwreck of all time.
And if you don't hate him enough already -- Justin didn't have to pay a penny for Staples. We're told since he sold out the venue three times, and it was empty tonight ... they gave him the entire arena for free.

Jesse James and Kat Von D are on the outs, yet again.
The couple, who called off their seven-month engagement in July, reconciled last month, telling people they were still on track to tie the knot.
However, it looks like that's not the case.
Von D took to Facebook Saturday to clear up some rumors that had been floating around, including rumors about her on-and-off relationship with James.
"I am not in a relationship," she wrote. "And I apologize for all the "back and forth" if it’s caused any confusion."
Von D also confirmed the news of the split to PEOPLE, telling them she and James were "on two different paths in life."
The tattoo artist and James, who is the ex-husband of Sandra Bullock and CEO of West Coast Choppers, first stepped out together last September and had originally been planning an August wedding.
Relationship trouble aside, things haven't exactly been stress-free for Von D lately. The tattoo artist, whose TLC show "LA Ink" was recently cancelled, also used Facebook to talk about what's next for her -- and it doesn't include moving to Texas or shutting down her shop, High Voltage Tattoo.
"As hard as it is to sometimes let go of the things you are so accustomed to doing, I am happy to have done 'LA Ink,' but am even more excited about new upcoming ventures -- and can't wait to eventually share more about this with you all," she wrote.

Michele Bachmann Defends HPV Vaccine Comments, Gay Marriage Stance On 'Tonight Show' With Jay Leno
Michele Bachmann appeared as a guest on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno Friday, and the talk show host used the opportunity to press the Republican presidential candidate about her controversial remarks about the HPV vaccine and her views on homosexuality.
At the GOP debate last Monday, sponsored by CNN and the Tea Party Express, Bachmann criticized Texas Gov. Rick Perry for signing an executive order requiring middle-school girls in his state to get vaccinated against the human papillomavirus.
"Is that bad? It's a vaccine to prevent cervical cancer," Leno asked Bachmann Friday night.
"Well I think so," Bachmann replied. "The concern is that there are potentially side effects that can come with something like that. But it gives a false sense of assurance to a young woman when she has that, that if she's sexually active that she doesn't have to worry about sexually transmitted diseases."
"I'm not sure it's a sense of assurance. It can prevent cervical cancer, correct?" Leno interjected.
"It's something that could potentially have dangerous side effects," Bachmann repeated.
Leno also pressed Bachmann about the story she has told about meeting an unidentified woman following the debate who said her daughter suffered "mental retardation" as a result of the HPV vaccine.
"Do you regret not getting this woman's name and address?" Leno asked Bachmann.
"I don't know who this person was," Bachmann replied, refusing to budge from the talking points she has repeated this week. "I wasn't speaking as a doctor, I wasn't speaking as a scientist, I was just relating what this woman said."
Leno also pressed Bachmann about her views on homosexuality and gay marriage.
"That whole 'pray the gay away' thing, I don't get it," said Leno, referring to the Christian counseling clinic she owns with her husband.
Bachmann tried to deflect Leno's question with a joke, pointing to her hair and saying, “When I heard that I really thought it was like kind of a mid-life crisis line, like, 'Pray away the gray.'"
The joke fell flat.
"It sounds like, if two gay people want to get married, that's their business, that doesn't concern us,” Leno continued. "Why is that even an issue?"
"I know gay families that are married, they have children. And they're wonderful people. It doesn't seem like they shouldn't be allowed to be happy. But I'm not going to change your mind on that one.”
When Leno asked who Bachmann would like to have as her running mate, she tried to lighten the tone. “You’re taken. You don’t want a cut in pay,” she teased Leno.
“Well, we’d probably have an argument over the gay thing,” he replied.
Leno did get in one good one-liner, though, while discussing the Tea Party's uncompromising position on raising the nation's debt ceiling.
“If you become president -- and you seem pretty strident in your views," Leno said.
“Convicted. I’m convicted,” Bachmann interjected.
“Convicted?” Leno replied. “No, you don’t get convicted until after you’re in office. That’s later. You have to get elected first."
